Dignity for All Students Act (D A S A), about bullying and harassment
“New York State’s Dignity for All Student Act (The Dignity Act) seeks to provide the State’s public, elementary, and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus, and/or at a school function.” – (https://www.p12.nysed.gov/dignityact).
This law took effect on July 1, 2012, and amendments took effect on July 1, 2013.
Students at Otselic Valley are to report any incidents of discrimination, harassment, bullying, cyberbullying, hazing, or sexting by completing the Bullying Report Form and/or the Harassment Report Form on our website. Print copies are available upon request from the Library, Guidance Office, or the Main Office.
The Dignity Act requires each school to have a Board of Education-appointed Dignity Act Coordinator who is trained to handle human relations in the area of nondiscrimination. They serve as a resource and are responsible for the oversight of the investigation process of all bullying and harassment allegations.
