back-to-school

Only at OV can you find an amazing event like this just before the first day of school! On Tuesday, September 6 from 4-6 pm, ALL students and families are invited to school for a Back to School Kick-Off that is more than anything we’ve hosted before. Is it a party? Is it a get-ready-for-school event? Is it for new students and families? Is it for returning students and families? Is it for elementary, middle school, AND high school? Yes, it’s everything! We’ll all be there, including all teachers and LTAs, administrators, and our new K-12 Principal, Mr. Brett King. In front of school, look for food trucks, a DJ with music, a school bus that new riders can visit, and special tables from the Booster Club, PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), and OVTA (the teachers’ organization). Dinner from the food truck and Viking-branded gear will be available for purchase. Inside school, there will be a scavenger hunt (with free Gilligan’s ice cream when you finish) and fun giveaways throughout the evening. Just listen for announcements on the intercom system and watch the Hypersigns (big electronic sign boards) around school to learn what’s next! In the gym and around school, you’ll find all you need to know for the coming school year: More! SCHEDULED: 4:00-4:30 pm: Elementary students and families are invited to their new classrooms to say hello, check out the space, drop off supplies, find cubbies or lockers, and get signed up on See Saw if you’re not on it already 4:30 pm: Meet Mr. Brett King, our new PreK-12 principal, in the MPR 4:45 pm: Middle School students and families are invited to the M P R (“multi-purpose room” for a quick meeting for 6th-8th grades. 5:00 pm: Students taking college-level courses will meet in the M P R for a brief description of their courses and Q&A. WHERE IS EVERYTHING? MAIN ENTRANCE:  Double doors at the end of a small greenway that you access  the curving bus loop. You’ll see a sign that points you to the Main Office. FRONT LAWN:   The front of our beautiful campus that’s parallel to County Rt. 13A (sometimes called School Street or Maple Ave). The steps and entry in the middle of this historic part of our building are no longer the main entrance, but you’ll see it in the photos of each year’s graduating class. PARKING: There is a parking lot next to the library (a small one), and more parking in two lots that you can access from the end of the curving bus loop alongside the main entrance, or from County Rt. 13 (also known as Mariposa Road). GYM: Walk in the double doors of the main entrance, cross the hall, and you’re there! MPR: “MPR” is short for “multipurpose room.” Walk in the double doors of the main entrance, turn left, and enter the first door past the display cases holding Vikings athletic wear. The MPR has a stage at one end and sliding seating that can be opened for performances. LIBRARY: From the main entrance, turn right to walk past the main office, then turn left onto the hallway that includes the nurse’s office, district office, and lockers. Keep going straight till you walk into the library door. Be sure to look around our beautiful space – small steps and a ramp separate its two sections. We can’t wait to see you!
