[POSTPONED] All are welcome to join us for "The One and Only Ivan Fun Night" on Friday, June 3 from 6:00-8:30 pm in a celebration of the arts in education. The event features an array of activities to choose from which are tied to The One and Only Ivan, a Newbery Medal winning book written by Katherine Applegate (illustrated by Patricia Castelao) and a Disney movie of the same name. The fictional story is based on the true story of a real silverback gorilla named Ivan. In the book, Ivan lived for many years in a cage at a mall until he experienced changes in his life. A host of characters, and art, feature prominently in a book that has been described as life-changing. "Mr. Schu" (John Schumacher), a nationally known school library advocate and ambassador who visited Otselic Valley at the beginning of this school year, talked to our students about how this book changed his life -- and he is only one of many according to reviews and reader comments. The One and Only Ivan book has been featured in many O V classrooms all year long, and we're delighted to present this event as a way to celebrate its themes. On Friday, local art will be exhibited throughout the first floor of our school, with real object labels just like you'd find in a museum exhibition. Come see who our artists are and experience their remarkable work. Students, families, and visitors have many activities to choose from: We hope to see you there!
