Most of us have heard the phrase “Viking Pride,” but did you notice that “P.R.I.D.E.” as an acronym also spells out Patience-Respect-Integrity-Determination-Empathy? Sixth graders know this, and they are taking P.R.I.D.E. to the next level.Tickets posted to the 6th grade bulletin board show checkmarks for each student's P.R.I.D.E. achievement, and some have notes: "Determined to do hard things," "...taking her work seriously," "...working hard to stay caught up, and choosing to stay after," "finished assignment well before due date," "...has been a rock star in social studies." Each ticket shows ways 6th graders are living out these key themes, and staff notice.Once a week Mrs. Youngs takes the mic during Morning Announcements and gives a shout-out to students who were noticed demonstrating “P.R.I.D.E.” that week. Listeners hear a roll-out of Vikings who are empathic, determined, full of integrity, respectful, and patient. Then those tickets go in the Shout-Out container until the appointed day. Once a month, there is a drawing for students who can then choose a prize from the display case near the District Office. This month, Wyatt, Alex, Matthew, Ameliah, Spencer, Lupita, Madlin, Ellie, and Caelin all won a free-choice prize. Many thanks to the entire 6th grade team who worked together at the beginning of the school year to set up this ongoing opportunity for students.Double thanks go to staff who have been contributing fun prizes all year long.Triple thanks to 6th graders who choose to be patient, respectful, full of integrity, determined, and empathic every day.
