August 2021 To Parents and Girls in Grades 9-12: Hello! I hope everyone has had a peaceful and enjoyable summer. Soccer season is just around the corner. For your child to be ready for soccer season, she needs to have an updated physical. If they have received a physical as of August 2020 to the present, they will be good for this soccer season. Also your child will need to have a medical update form filled out and returned before the first day of practice to the nurse's office or high school office. If these two things are not done, then your child will not be able to practice. Please plan ahead to get this taken care of. All ninth graders interested in playing soccer, whether Modified or Varsity, need to come to the first three days of practice. After that, I will make a decision with the program's best interest in mind about whether she is ready for Varsity or not. All decisions made by the coach will be final, and are not negotiable. This is the Varsity level and athletes are expected to be committed to attending all practices/games and to be a team player. The support of parents is also very important. Playing time is earned by effort and skills acquired in practice. Even though your child is on the team, this does not mean she will always receive playing time each game. A mandatory sports meeting for all Modified and Varsity athletes (all sports, all year) and their parents will be held on AUGUST 19 at 6 pm in the M P R. Masks are required of everyone regardless of vaccination status. Finally, Varsity Soccer is a mentally and physically demanding sport. You should prepare for the upcoming season by conditioning and getting your gear ready. This will help prevent injuries and get you prepared for a successful season. Visit this link for more information and a training plan you may like to use. The health history update form was mailed, but you can also find it and the physical form on our website here.  The health history update needs to be filled out and returned to the school prior to the first practice. I am looking forward to this season, and I hope you are too! Enjoy the rest of the summer. Sincerely, Cindy Buerkle OV Girls' Varsity Soccer Coach cbuerkle@ovcs.org
