Congratulations to Conner Ossont, Silver Medalist in the 2021 SkillsUSA Virtual State Competition! Eight students from the DCMO BOCES Norwich campus along with students from other BOCES campuses participated in a high-stakes, skill-measuring Career & Technical Education competition that normally takes place in person over 3 days.This year, Conner had two hours to build in the Carpentry competition. He was recorded with a clock running in the background, and his work was judged from the video. Criteria included the following:Task #1: Wall construction (30 points)Task #2: Rafter construction (20 points)Task #3: Hinge gain (10 points)Task #4: Stringer layout (20 points)Task #5: Introduction - soft skills (10 points)Task #6: Job-site management (10 points)Contestants are judged on accuracy, ability to read and interpret blueprints, workmanship, safety and the proper use of tools/equipment/materials, and more. Conner’s achievement in this highly competitive, skill-laden contest is a credit to him and his Carpentry instructor, Mr. Steve Davis.Construction in the years to come will be sound, solid, safe, and beautiful if Conner has anything to say about it.
