An informational meeting about the 2020-21 Otselic Valley Shared Decision-Making Committee (S D M C) will take place via Zoom on Monday, December 14 at 6:30 pm. If you have suggestions about topics to address in the coming school year, and/or if you are interested in volunteering for this committee, please join the Zoom meeting whose link is posted below. The purpose of this school-based planning and shared decision-making team “shall be to improve the educational performance of all students in the school...,” explains New York State Education Department regulations (8 NYCRR § 100.11(b)). The structure of the team is intended to emphasize both the involvement and meaningful participation of administrators, teachers, and parents in the process (School Law, 36th edition, New York State School Boards Association, 5:37).This year’s team, which is expected to be capped at 10 volunteers, will include members from key stakeholder groups: the superintendent and principal from Administration, teachers/staff from varied school areas, and parent members. Going forward, monthly meetings of the Shared-Decision Meeting team are anticipated.Previous S D M Committee agendas have largely focused on the Otselic Valley Strategic Plan, including the following:School-based community librarySummer camp and recreation programsThe Campaign for Grade Level ReadingSchool year scheduling, including shared classes and distance learningThis year’s committee can expect to review a list of concerns collected at the December 14 general meeting in order to narrow focus to 2-3 action items.
