The Otselic Valley Board of Education named Mrs. Georgia Gonzalez Superintendent of Schools at the October 26, 2020 Special Meeting. She will begin at Otselic Valley by at least November 30, 2020.In addition to her 3-year contract at $120,000 per year, a Memorandum of Agreement with the Board states that she will receive a 10% reduction in pay if state aid from New York State is reduced by 20% at any time in the 2020-2021 school year.  Interim Superintendent Mike Drahos concluded his work at Otselic Valley on October 28, 2020. Mr. Dan Silky, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance, has been appointed Acting Superintendent until Mrs. Gonzalez’s start at Otselic Valley.Mr. Robert Berson, OV’s former Superintendent of Schools, accepted a new position as Superintendent of Schools in a neighboring school district, and resigned from his position at Otselic Valley in June 2020. The Board of Education initiated a search for a new Superintendent in June. The selection process was conducted with the assistance of Mr. Perry Dewey, the District Superintendent of Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES, and resulted in 22 candidates applying for the position.“Trying to hire people who live in the community is the best way to create longevity,” said Board President Paul O’Connor about Mrs. Gonzalez’s appointment. “We hope this will help create stability at Otselic Valley. We are very happy to have her here.”Ms. Gonzalez  has been an administrator since 2015, and is currently the School Business Official for Liberty Central School District. Prior to Liberty, Ms. Gonzalez was a shared Business Manager at DCMO BOCES for the Otselic Valley, Sidney, and Unatego school districts. Ms. Gonzalez received her Associates of Applied Science degree in Architectural Engineering from Alfred State College, a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Chatham College, a Master's degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) and a Master's degree in Information Science (M.I.S.) from the University of Phoenix, and will be completing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD) in December 2020.  She will be continuing her education in January 2021 to complete a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.Ms. Gonzalez obtained her School District Business Leader Certification from the College of Saint Rose and School District Leader  Certification from Canisius College in 2018.
