Food and Culture Expo, March 14th, Community Night 5;30 - 7 pm

Classrooms have been buzzing with extra exploration and preparation, and families and community members will soon see why!

This THURSDAY, MARCH 14 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, all families and community members are invited to join us in the MPR for the Food and Culture Expo Community Night! It’s the second part of a school-wide event that showcases cultural displays and fun surprises. It’s a feast for the eyes and the mind, and our Vikings are learning so much.

Shaped by the standards of their grade-specific social studies curriculum, classes have been exploring culture (and food!) from right here in Otselic Valley, the Southern and Northern United States, Brazil, China, ancient Rome and Greece, local immigrants’ countries of origin, the Columbian Exchange, and some of the countries visited by WWI veterans.

During the school-day portion of this Expo, students will also be free to sample showcased foods from various cultures and regions. Food sampling is optional but encouraged with thanks to the teachers, students, and helpers who chose, and will be preparing and plating, these foods. Tastebuds can tell us a lot about a place and its culture.

Although food won’t be available at the public portion of the Culture Expo Community Night (5:30 pm-7:00 pm), there will be plenty to see and all are welcome!

Flyers focusing on the region being explored by students in each grade level have been sent home, and we encourage families to preview what your students have been working on. Then, we hope to see you in person on Thursday night. Thank you for supporting Viking discoveries!

This Expo is an opportunity for our students to enjoy delicious food but also a platform for cultural exchange and learning. It is meant to contribute to the appreciation of global diversity and empathy for those different from us. – Ms. Lawrence
