Dear Otselic Valley Central School Community,
We understand that recent events may have caused concern among our students, staff, and community members regarding safety in our schools. In light of the uptick in threats in our region, we want to assure you that Otselic Valley Central School District is committed to taking these incidents very seriously. Our primary focus remains the safety and well-being of every individual in our school community, and we are diligent in our efforts to maintain a secure environment.
Last week, we were made aware of an indirect, non-credible threat that affected several area schools. While this threat did not specifically target Otselic Valley, we responded swiftly by relaying this information to families through the SchoolMessenger App.
Also taking place last week, the District conducted mandated lock down, hold in place, and emergency evacuation drills to ensure that our staff and students are well-prepared in the event of an actual emergency. Ahead of these drills, we sent a letter that outlined the District Emergency Drill information. Additionally, we also sent a separate notice to district families in an effort to prepare and reassure you, our school community, of the upcoming drills.
We also prioritized these timely communications with our families and the community by providing updates on social media, through direct messaging, and on the District website to keep everyone informed and aware of both the regional threat and our emergency drills. Our goal is to maintain open lines of communication, so you always have the most up-to-date and accurate information.
We want to reassure you that we remain vigilant and proactive in our efforts to keep our school safe. We consistently work closely with local law enforcement and other safety professionals, regularly reviewing and refining our safety protocols, and providing training to staff and students.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Together, we can ensure that Otselic Valley Central School remains a safe place for all to learn, work, and grow. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Brian Collier
Superintendent of Schools
Otselic Valley Central School District
